This lantern is the perfect size for a camping trip or to even use as a emergency light if the electric goes off. Runs off of 3 AA batteries instead of D like things normally do. The light is surprisingly bright, and the lantern appears to be solidly built. This could easily fit in a backpack. There is no on/off switch, you just pull the top open and it turns on, push it down and compact it to close and turn off. The cap has a two-piece handle on it that allows this lantern to be hung easily. On the top of the cap is a small compass. It is by no means a high end compass but it works well enough. It appears to be accurate. It is sealed up nicely and is water resistant. I would not try to submerge it under water but it will be fine in rain and snow.
This is an excellent lantern that casts a lot of light. It works well and is very easy to use. If you need a lantern-style light source, this one is very definitely worth a look.
